Annual Benefit at Ravinia
Featured Music of Cole Porter
The 2009 ediition of SELCFIA’s annual Evening at Ravinia, a fund raising event that featured dinner and a concert, this year focused on the music of Cole Porter.
“An Evening of Cole Porter,” Sunday August 16, featured vocalists David Hyde Pierce and Victoria Clark, with Rob Fisher conducting. It began at 7:30 p.m., following a catered dinner of sandwiches, salads, an open bar and sweets. The ticket for the entire evening, with pavilion seats, was $110.
The program, which was first presented in January to open the 11th season of Lincoln Center’s popular American Songbook series, received rave reviews, with Variety saying it opened the series “with sophisticated style. This one-night-only affair could easily be packed up and reproduced elsewhere -- and definitely should be.” Its review adds that Fisher “seems to have made his job easy by inviting precisely the right singers.”
Pierce, best known for the role of Niles Crane on the television series Frasier, won a Tony for lead actor in a Broadway musical (Curtains) in 2007. Clark won a Tony for best lead actress in 2005 for The Light in the Piazza. Together, they put together a totally fun-filled evening of first rate entertainment.
