About Us - Volunteer Activities
SELCFIA’s annual volunteer appreciation celebration honored those who cheerfully deliver services to people in need. The 2008 version of the event took place at the Midlane Country Club in Wadsworth.
What do FIA volunteers do?
Faith in Action fosters caring relationships between volunteers and their neighbors with long-term health needs to enhance independence.
Volunteer activities may include shopping for groceries, providing rides to medical appointments, running errands,
providing companionship through visiting or phoning and providing respite care for family caregivers. Volunteers are not available as daily caregivers or for all-day service.
Volunteers are also trained to recognize when someone needs additional social services and can function as a liaison to the appropriate agencies and organizations in Lake County.

A Spirit of Caring
Stories of Connection
As we start 2009, Southeast Lake County Faith in Action Volunteers would like to share some of the stories of our volunteers and care recipients. These are but glimpses into the myriad ways the volunteers reach out to neighbors in the community who need the support of additional hands and hearts. Our volunteers have offered themselves in ways beyond what we think of as ordinary. Some of their efforts have literally been life-saving; all of them are life-enhancing....
Everyone needs help at some time during the life cycle. Some people are fortunate enough to have family and friends to turn to when they need help. Others, for a variety of reasons, do not have a strong social support network. This is when the resources and volunteers of Faith in Action come into play.
The neighbors who turn to SELCFIA find generous souls willing to open their hearts: people who care; people who invest time and effort in their well-being. The volunteers make the journey through life a bit easier. Trained, supervised and insured, they can also liaise with social services that are available locally, keeping our care recipients involved with the community

2009 Volunteer Recognition Lunch features speaker on preventing falls
Each summer, Southeast Lake County Faith in Action Volunteers celebrates the contributions of the finest volunteers anywhere, the well trained people who give of their time to help the elderly and health-challenged care recipients we serve. They are the heart of our program and we want them to know how much we appreciate their efforts.
This year, we will be recognizing their service at a Volunteer Luncheon and Education Tuesday, July 14, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Marc Berman Auditorium in the new Education Building at B'nai Torah, 2789 Oak Street, Highland Park. The program will feature guest speaker Mary Ellen Saunders from Elder Care in Waukegan, who will talk about preventing falls. All our volunteers are invited and we are encouraging them to bring their care recipients, as well.
