favorites was a chartreuse polyester shirt and shorts with matching earrings. With low vision, Eve was supposed to walk with a cane, but tended to twirl it, instead.

My Friends in Highwood
By Eve Krumbein

Of friends I used to have.

Now that our hearts are getting old and wearing out
We sit at home alone a lot
Because we can’t jitterbug the night away
We sure wish we had a rocking chair.
