DENTAL CARE The Illinois State Dental Society matches volunteer dentists with patients for the purpose of providing dental care. Persons with limited income directly related to a disability, advanced age or a serious medical condition that restricts access to needed dental care may qualify. The Dental House Call program from the Illinois State Dental Society transports dental equipment directly to the home of patients who are homebound or in a care facility. Dentists charge for services but may offer discounts. Call (312) 440-8976.

General Assistance and Emergency Assistance are state-regulated functions of the Office of the Township Supervisor. Help may be granted to resident individuals requiring financial aid to assure basic life necessities such as shelter, food, utilities, drugs, health and safety.
Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides credits towards electric and/or gas bills
Circuit Breaker Grants provide low-income seniors and disabled residents with yearly grants to help pay property taxes, license plate fees and pharmaceutical expenses.
FOOD & NUTRITION Mobile Meals are available for delivery 5 days a week through Highland Park Hospital. Mobile Meals available for purchase include a hot lunch, plus a sandwich for dinner. Call 847-480-2727.

EYECARE Seniors EyeCare services is available for adults 65+ who have not seen an ophthalmologist in three or more years and who do not have eyecare insurance. Eligible persons may receive a comprehensive medical eye exam and up to one year of treatment for any condition diagnosed during the initial exam, with no out-of-pocket expenses. Call 800-222-EYES.
Glaucoma EyeCare services is available for adults 65+ who have not seen as ophthalmologist in three or more years, are at increased risk for glaucoma and do not have eyecare insurance. Eligible persons receive a glaucoma eye exam and the initiation of treatment if necessary. Call 800-222-EYES.

INDEPENDENT LIVING The Highland Park Senior Center can refer homebound seniors to resources that can help with the normal activities of independent living such as transportation, grocery shopping, social support and handyman chores(847) 432-4110 .
LEISURE The HP Senior Center offers a wide variety of educational lectures, social events, luncheons, special interest classes, exercise programs, trips and tours, and intergenerational programs throughout the year (847) 432-4110.
MEDICAL BILLING & PAPERWORK ASSISTANCE SHIP volunteers at the HP Senior Center 1) help interpret and resolve bills with medical bills, Medicare, Medicare Supplemental Insurance; 2) explain the Medicare supplements available: 3) review and explain long term care policies; and 4) explain the new Part D Medicare Prescription Drug Plan. PERSONAL & HOME SAFETY The Highland Park Police Department offers courtesy well-being checks for elderly and at-risk residents during periods of sustained extreme weather and temperatures. To register, call the HP Police non-emergency number at (847) 926-1797.
A joint program between Moraine Township & the Highland Park Fire Department offers free smoke & carbon monoxide detectors to qualified senior, handicapped, and low-income residents. Annual battery replacements for the detectors are also available. While in the house, the Fire Department can also conduct a safety survey and provides suggestions to residents for ways they can improve their safety in the house. Eligible residents can get assistance with Personal Emergency Response Systems through Moraine Township.
REAL ESTATE EXEMPTIONS Contact the Moraine Township Assessor’s office at (847)432-2100 to ensure you are receiving every exemption to which you are entitled. Adults 65+ are eligible for the Senior Exemption in addition to the General Homestead Exemption. Tax Deferral Program allows Adults 65+ to defer payment of part or all of the property taxes on their homes. Assessment Freeze Homestead Exemption freezes the real estate assessment for eligible adults 65+.
REDUCED FEES for CITY SERVICES Resident households who qualify under the federal HUD low-income rates are eligible for reduced rates on services such as garbage, sewer, diseased elm tree removal and vehicle sticker fees. Contact the City of Highland Park (847) 432-0800.
SOCIAL SERVICES Licensed social workers at the HP Senior Center (847) 432-4110 and Highland Park Police Social Services Department (847) 926-1797 provide short-term counseling for issues related to eldercare, death & loss, aging parent/child relations, substance abuse, housing, etc. Home visits, referrals and resources for residents in financial need are also available.
Telephone reassurance and a friendly visitor program are available through the HP Senior Center.

TRANSPORTATION There are several transportation services available to Adults 65+ and handicapped or disabled residents:
Moraine Door-to-Door vans provide low cost transportation to and from medical appointments for seniors, disabled and low income residents. Moraine Township is also your link to RTA Users Travel Cards that can be used for free travel on RTA-funded transportation. Lastly, Moraine Township provides a Taxi Coupon Program for seniors and disabled residents, contributing $3 to taxi ride fees. Pace offers transportation for persons with disabilities. In order to receive service, call (312) 663-4357 to request an application and schedule a site visit. Upon approval, service may be requested 24 hours in advance.
The Senior Center Shuttle Service is available to and from the Central Ave. parking lot and the HP Senior Center. A call box at the entrance to the parking lot can be used to request a ride.
The City of Highland Park offers a Senior Connector bus which operates Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. -3:30 p.m. and is available for use by residents 50 years and older.
